No. 2 - Detroit Tigers (1-0) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (0-1)

Friday, March 29, 2019 | 7:07 pm
Rogers Centre | Toronto, ON

Matt Boyd (2018: 9-13, 4.39, 1.16) vs. Matt Shoemaker (2018: 2-2, 4.94, 1.26)

PREAMBLE:

Opening day was a wet dream for Wince, but not so much for a large percentage of Blue Jays fans with only two hits to show for 10 innings of work.  One huge positive was the excellent pitching from Marcus Stroman, Joe Biagini and Ken Giles.

Can the Jays hitters wake up from their stupor and welcome back an old buddy, Matt Boyd, with a cacophony of hits all over the field?

Boyd brings his career Rogers Centre record of 0-3, 7.61 ERA in five starts to the mound and faces Matt Shoemaker, making his Blue Jays debut.  Shoemaker has done well against the Tigers in his career, going 3-1 with a 0.83 ERA in five starts.

NOTES:

Last night's loss was Charlie Montoyo's debut as a manager.  Let's hope Game 2 is a better outcome for him.

Happy 152nd birthday to Cy Young.
