The heart and soul of the Toronto Blue Jays is missing!

Something has been wrong with the Toronto Blue Jays ball club all year.  We have endlessly debated the underlying reasons and tried to come up with the ultimate answer.  Some suggest the hitting coach is at fault while others believe the overly large and complex hitting "department" confuses the hitters with too much data.

Some say Schneider has been a poor field manager.  Others have had enough of Shapiro and Atkins, who have had no playoff success in their 8 year run with the club.  There are those who argue that the stadium renovations didn't work as intended and have sapped the home run power from the club.

ALL OF THESE THEORIES ARE WRONG!

When the Blue Jays parted ways with legendary broadcaster Pat Tabler (Tabby!), they lost their heart, their very soul!  Many didn't initially realize that this was the main problem facing the club and may even have applauded the decision makers for moving Tabby along.  However, they felt it deep down and knew, in their heart of hearts, that it just wasn't the same and nothing would ever feel right again.  Sitting down to watch a nice afternoon of baseball requires the voice of Blue Jays baseball - Pat Tabler!!

Tabby has always been a "treemendous" broadcaster with schtrong skills at calling the game.  He understands the nuances of the game of baseball in a way that nobody else does.  I feel deep pain at the loss of Tabby's presence, his calls, and the lack of heart that pervades the club now that he is gone.

I hereby and officially call for Tabby to be reinstated to his position without further delay, at a higher salary, on a lengthy term.  Should the club elect not to follow my suggestion on this matter, I will never again watch Blue Jays baseball, nor will I listen to or stream it....or be involved in any way again.

First Random Jays Thread After Season's End!

1985 Blue Jays Fire Safety Set

The old thread is getting jammed up with comments and is threatening to destroy lesser computers and phones.  Desperate times call for desperate measures so here is a new random thread.  It's still early in the off-season but hopefully most have had a chance to decompress and are feeling, if not better, then less angry about this year's elimination.  I was able to transfer my anger from the Jays to the Canucks, who managed to blow a 3-0 lead to lose their season opening contest.

There are lots of interesting storylines to consider for this off-season:

  • How will Atkins make this club take the next step?  It's a good club but not good enough to win it all unless they get lucky and everything falls right (and we squint?)
  • Will Kikuchi be back?  If he is, how will Dabbles react?
  • Is it time to move Bo to 2nd or trade him?  Who would replace him that would offer more value?
  • Can the club upgrade their Outfield and perhaps also optimize which players are at which positions?
  • Will the bullpen be strengthened to hopefully match up better with some of the stronger ones other clubs clearly had this year?
  • Can they risk not upgrading 1 or, hopefully, two of the #4 and #5 starters?
Things tend to slow down a bit around here over winter but hopefully folks will continue to show up to discuss baseball, a bit of hockey, and life in general.  I will definitely be posting some baseball card articles over the winter, starting with a discussion on the 1909-1911 T206 set, which boasts the rare, valuable, and notorious Honus Wagner card.

Game 30! Toronto Blue Jays (17-12) at Cleveland Guardians (13-14)

Sun, May 8 • 1:40 PM EDT

At Progressive Field

Alek Manoah 4-0, 1.45 ERA, 32 SO vs Konnor Pilkington 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 5 SO

Big Alek is going as the Jays look to split the 4 game series. The rookie going for Cleveland has only pitched 10 innings this year (half in the minors, half here) so looks like he might be an opener. Time to give him an ERA.
