After a nice shutout win over the Red Sox thanks to a team effort offensively and 7 shutout innings from ace Jose Berrios, the Blue Jays were looking to extend the win streak to three games, notch their 14th series win and 7th season series win of the season. Alan Roden was optioned to AAA-ball and Will Wagner was recalled from AAA-ball in his place. Chris Bassitt got the start with Alejandro Kirk behind the plate. Vlad got the half day off as DH with Ernie Clement at 1B. George Springer was in LF, Myles Straw was in CF and Nathan Lukes was in RF. Addison Barger was at the hot corner. My Take:
- Chris Bassitt was lit up for 9 runs (8 earned) on 8 hits while walking 4 and striking out 3 over 2 innings. He actually retired the first two batters he faced, then gave up three consecutive hits, capped by a 3-run bomb around the imfamous Pesky's pole. He simply did not have it today. Bassitt's ERA is now over 4.00 on the season.
- The bullpen gave up 6 runs on 9 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4 over the last 6 innings. None of the pitchers retired every batter faced. Brayden Fisher didn't have any runs charged to him, but all three inherited runners that were on base when he came in to the ball game scored. Mason Fluharty looked better than he had in recent appearances, but he gave up a mammoth home run.
- Offensively, Addison Barger drove in the only Blue Jays run.
