After A blowout win over the Tigers yesterday thanks to a team effort offensively and 6 strong innings from Kevin Gausman, the Blue Jays were looking to extend the win streak to 3 games. My Take:
- It's back to the drawing board for Alek Manoah, who was roughed up for 6 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4 over 4.2 innings pitched. It was the 4th inning where it felt like he wasn't going to get ouut of it. It was unfortunate that Kevin Kiermaier made a rare error on a fly ball he would have caught had Daulton Varsho not gotten in the way. a run scored on the play, then Manoah hit a batter and then conceded a third run in the inning on a ground out. He was also taken deep twice for three more runs. A lot of fans were cautiously optimistic that Manoah was back to his 2021/22 form. Hopefully this is a minor blip in the road and Manoah bounces back with a gem next week
- The bullpen gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and struck out 2 over the last 3.1 innings. Genesis Cabrera was the only reliever to retire every batter he faced
- Offensively, the team did next to nothing in the first 8 innings. A rally in the 9th fell 4 runs short. Seems like an odd decision to pull Davis Schneider out of the leadoff spot after two blowout wins.
- Vlad is definitely doing his darndest to get picked as the Blue Jays all-star rep. He's now got hits in 3 straight games and 19 of his last 22 games.
- The Blue Jays were 3-5 with runners in scoring position
- Up next, the Blue Jays try to retake the series lead. Ace Jose Berrios starts against Tigers righty Reese Olson
