George Springer hit a 2-run HR and scored twice in a 5-1 win over the White Sox |
After a heartbreaking loss yesterday, the Blue Jays were looking to snap the 2-game skid. Chris Bassitt got the start with Danny Jansen behind the plate. Daniel Vogelbach served as DH. George Springer was back in RF after a full day off yesterday. IFK was at the hot corner and Cavan Biggio was at 2B. Could the Blue Jays snap the 2-game skid? Here is today's game recap

My Take:
- Chris Bassitt threw 5 shutout innings, scattering 5 hits, walking nonr and striking out 7. Bassitt escaped a bases loaded jam in the 1st inning and then retired 5 in a row after that. You have to question the quick hook given the ineffectiveness of the bullpen this seaso, unless he was dealing with an illness or minor injury that the team didn't want to push with a long start
- The bullpen certainly made things interesting, giving up a run on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2 over the last 4 innings. Swanson was responsible for the run against, giving up a solo HR in the 8th.
- Offensively, George Springer (2-run HR, 2 runs scores), Davis Schneider (2-run HR) did the damage. Springer was the player who needed a big game.
- The Blue Jays were 0-5 with runners in scoring position
- Up next, the Blue Jays try to extend the winning streak to 2 games. Kevin Gausman starts againt White Sox righty Mike Clevinger
