-Game #13 - Toronto Blue Jays (8-5) @ Boston Red Sox (6-7) - game recap

Kevin Gausman threw 8 strong innings in a 2-1 extra-innings win over the Red Sox

After a second straight win over the Red Sox on the strength of a solid start from Easton Lucas, the Blue Jays were looking to extend the win streak to 3 games and notch their first series win of the season. Kevin Gausman got the start with Alejandro kirk behind the plate. Vlad got the half day off as DH with Will Wagner at 1B. Andres Gimenez was back in the lineup at 2B after the complete day off yesterday (he did come into yesterday's game as a defensive replacement. Anthony Santander was in LF and Nathan Lukes was in CF. Could the Blue Jays extend the win streak to 3 games and notch their 1st series win of the season? here is tonoght's game recap.

Game Highlights:

  • The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st on a ground out hit by Will Wagner that scored Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
  • The Red Sox tied it up in the bottom half of the inning on a sac fly by Alex Bregman that scored Jarren Duran
  • Tanner Houck pitching line: 6.2IP 5H 1R (earned) 2BB 2K 90 pitches (55 for strikes)
  • Kevin Gausmam pitching line: 8IP 4H 1R (unearned) 0BB 10K 93 pitches (68 for strikes)
  • The Blue Jays took the lead in the top of the 11th on a sac fly by Bo Bichette that scored Ernie Clement
  • Nick Sandlin pitched a perfect 11th for his 1st save of the season
  • Final score: Blue Jays 2 Red Sox 1 (11 innings)

My Take:

  • Kevin Gausman was outstanding today, fiting 8 innings (the most by a starter this season), giving up an unearned run on 4 hits while walking none and striking out 10.  Gausman had outstreaks of 9 and 8 batters. Impressively, he had thrown 93 pitches in those 8 innings and probably could have pitched one more too
  • The bullpen allowed just a walk in the last three innings while striking out 3. Jeff Hoffman threw multiple innings for the first time this season and was credited with the win
  • It was a quirky game offenseively with all 3 runs in the game scored on outs (2 sac flies and a ground out)\
  • Vlad and Andres Gimenez had five of the Blue Jays 6 hits
  • The Blue Jays were 1-9 with runners in scoring position
  • Up next, the Blue Jays try to extend the win streak to 4 games and to complete their first  series sweep of the season. Chris Baaasitt starts against Red Sox righty Walker Buehler
