It's been a good week. So good to see everyone again! The first weekend open thread goes up at 6 tonight and I hope you'll all swing by at some point over the weekend and hang out.
The good news is some of us test drove Stoeten's new game threat commenting system and it worked pretty well. So game threats are over at Blue Jays Nation this weekend. He also did us a solid in the Daily Duce as well as putting up a ton of content yesterday, so check it out if you haven't already.
Joanna has a good response to the whole Gossage thing.
There's a few things I'd like to hear from you about.
The first is that I'd love to have more writers. Philbert (who's first post was yesterday), Smasher, and Tom W has already come on board. The plan is to have fresh content daily at noon Toronto time Monday - Friday. If anyone else has ever wanted to write, feel free to let me know in the comments. DJF started out as a group - Stoeten, Parks and Bergkamp. (Think there may have been some other occasional writers too.) I like that we're recreating that dynamic.
The site's biggest need is a mod team. With writing and co-ordinating the site, I'd like to not have to mod as well. Radar has offered to help out but I don't want a situation like Noopi found himself in, where he couldn't be himself because he always had to be the adult in the room. With mandatory registration, it should cut down on the trollage but we all know that won't stop some people. If we had 5 or more people as mods, that would cut down the workload. We could structure it as a schedule, or have it more informal, with the mods deciding at the time they are here who would mod and who could just kick back. If you are willing to serve to keep this community a safe and fun place for all, please let me know in the comments.
If anyone has graphic talent, it would be great to do a proper banner, one that can also be used on the twitter page. If there's a lot of interest, maybe people can come up with concepts and we'd take a vote? It has to include the mushroom house.
Would everyone be ok with a moratorium on American presidential politics? I've left Facebook because it's become such a shit-show. I'd really like to not have that happen here.
I also have this crazy idea of inviting the folks from River Ave Blues to come hang with us one night before spring training is over. The idea would be to set it for 7pm. We'd spend that first hour talking about the AL East and mutually trash the LOLioles, the Sux, and the Rays. At 8, we'd have a trash-talking competition, with winners in categories like funniest, best image, best use of language, best use of imagery and have an overall winner. The only problem is that I don't know how we'd be able to do the voting. So I'm open to suggestion. If this is a bad idea, please tell me.
